Sure things are bad all over, but what can I do?
As a result of all the research we do here at Project Diaspora we often run across some great projects. Projects like The Women of Kireka, Let Art Talk and more. We can all fall into this idea that there is so much need, that our little bit can never make a difference. There are issues of trust, of need, of ambivilance, the reasons not to step in and make a difference are huge, they are more often than not based on a very real circumstance. Yesterday I was overwhelmed by the efforts of Maria De Silva of Malawi. She helps over 200 children get an education and it is mostly funded with $1000 a month out of her own pocket (1/3 of her salary as a nanny) and $10 donations from her fellow nannies. Wow, talk about ROI. For me this just reinforces the idea that we can all make a difference, however small, in the lives of others. What projects do you want to see happen? You never know when an idea can become a reality until you put it out there. Want to help but don’t know where to start? Here are some ideas.
Do a search on The Point for topics that interest you and see if there are any projects out there you could give $10 to.
Do a search on KIVA, see if there is an entrepreneur out there you can get behind.
