There is no doubt that quarantine has put a damper on summer plans. This is a trying time for many people, most especially families with children. As sad as the situation might appear, you should not feel as though you have to throw in the towel and only watch television and video games all summer long. Here are a few tips that let you make the most out of this time and try to have a fun summer:
First Things First: Summer Safety
Before you embark on any activities this summer, there are a few things to remember:
- Sunscreen
- Bug Spray
- Water
- A plan
- Pay Attention To Surroundings
Depending on where you are staying, you may find yourself dealing with a travel ban. However, there are still several local things that you can do with your family to enjoy the great outdoors. Before you head out for the day ensure you apply sunscreen so that you can avoid sunburn. Also, bring some sunblock along for the afternoon so that you can reapply.
If you have not cleaned out your summer beach bag from last year, this would be the perfect time to do it. Make sure that your sunblock, aloe vera after sun lotion and bug spray are not expired.
As Far as Outdoor Activities, You Can Still Have Fun During Quarantine:
- Go to a park
- Go on a hike
- Plan a picnic lunch
- Canoe or go boating
- Go fishing
If you plan on spending a day at the lake picnicking, fishing or hiking, make sure you add some bug spray too. There is nothing more annoying than a mosquito or bug bite.
Also, it is essential to take safety precautions such as SPF, bug spray, and hydration when you are about to spend an afternoon out in the sun. Also, ensure you are aware of your surroundings and the people and animals around you. If you notice anyone or anything suffering from heat exhaustion help in any way possible, whether it is by offering water or by calling for emergency assistance. We can never be too safe when the temperatures begin to rise.
Outdoor Summer Fun
Spending time outside is not only limited to parks, fishing and hiking. Depending on where you live and what your travel guidelines are, you may be able to enjoy the beach. Water is a refreshing way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. You may be in quarantine and unable to travel to your favorite beach resort in another country, but you can at least find a local spot and pretend you are far away. Play a little island music and enjoy the warmth of the sun.
A backyard pool or sprinkler is another incredible way to get children splashing around and enjoying the water. Make sure all safety precautions such as flotation devices and strict supervision are in place to ensure a safe and fun time for everyone.
Indoor Summer Fun
Summer fun does not have to be limited to the outside. There are going to be days where the heat index is just a bit too high or there are summer storms. These weather conditions will force us to spend time indoors. Don’t worry, Penn power has you covered when it comes to keeping your interior a nice cool air-conditioned space. Take advantage of these days inside and have some indoor summer fun.
Fun Things to Do at Home:
- Bake
- Hide and seek
- Board Games
- Build a fort
- Play dough
- Read a book
These are all fun ideas to spend a lazy day inside. Bake as if it is fall or winter and make some cookies or brownies. Board games are a great way to pass the time and bring the family together. If you have little ones they enjoy playing inside a fort or with some play-dough. Teens might enjoy a trip to the library followed with an afternoon engrossed in their favorite new book to read. These fun summer activities will keep you and your family entertained throughout quarantine.
